100 - 1850 ROMAN MICRO MOSAIC TABLE w/ LAPIS MALACHITE +

Micro mosaic table, Rome Italy, circa 1850. A large circular black marble table top inlaid with micro mosaics. Depicting St. Peter's square in the center and four Roman sites interconnected by floral festoons. The use of floral wreaths was popularized by Cavalier Barberi, who began using the motif around 1840. Each scene bordered with what appears to be coral, followed by malachite, the whole surrounded by a band of micromosaic lapizlazuli. The table base is a very fine Roman gold gilt wood. Black marble top/mosaic (alone) measures 36" (91.4cm) in diameter, the entire table measures 40" (101.6cm) in diameter (including gilt wood scalloped rim)x 31" (78.7cm) high. Purchased at Toulouse Antiques Gallery, Manhattan Beach, CA. Includes paid invoice and valuation from International Society of Appraisers of $200,000. Many more photos available.
